The Langtang Gosaikund trek is not only the Himalayan lakes.

Trip Overview

Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is a popular trekking route in Nepal that offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range and allows trekkers to experience the unique culture and traditions of the people who live in the region. The trek takes you through the Langtang Valley, a beautiful valley with dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and rugged terrain. The trail then leads you to the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda, where you can witness some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

The trek starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, a small town in the Langtang region. From Syabrubesi, the trek follows the Langtang River and passes through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo. You will also cross several suspension bridges and encounter small villages that are home to the Tamang people, an indigenous community with a rich cultural heritage.

After a few days of trekking, you will reach the Langtang Valley, where you can see the Langtang Lirung (7,227m), the highest peak in the region. The valley is also home to several traditional Tibetan villages, where you can learn about the local culture and customs. You can also visit the Kyanjin Gompa, a 400-year-old Buddhist monastery that offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

From Kyanjin Gompa, the trek heads towards the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda. The trail takes you through rugged terrain and passes several other smaller lakes, including Saraswati Kunda and Bhairav Kunda. You will also cross the Laurebina Pass (4,610m), which offers stunning views of the Langtang Himal range and the Ganesh Himal range.

The Gosainkunda Lakes are a holy site for both Hindus and Buddhists, and many pilgrims visit the lakes during the full moon festival in August. The lakes are believed to have been created by Lord Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident.

After visiting the lakes, the trek descends towards Dhunche, where you can catch a bus back to Kathmandu. The Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is a moderate trek that can be completed in 14-16 days, depending on your pace and itinerary. It is a great option for trekkers who want to experience the beauty of the Himalayas and learn about the local culture and traditions.
